SAT/ACT extra time in New Mexico

New Mexico uses “SAT” for two different things. The Student Assistance Team is a campus meeting. The SAT exam is a Saturday test. Extra time on the exam is not something the SAT team can stamp. You file a packet. College Board or ACT decides.

We list independent New Mexico evaluators who write SAT/ACT documentation — PED-licensed educational diagnosticians in Albuquerque, Santa Fe, and Las Cruces.

Two files, two audiences

An APS IEP, a 504, or a stack of SAT-team layer notes can show history. They do not travel onto the exam. The testing company wants a recent comprehensive evaluation, a disability narrative, and a concrete request: extra time, breaks, a reader, a separate room.

Start from the registration deadline printed for that administration. Review queues move slowly. Finishing the battery the week of the cutoff is how students sit without accommodations and rebook later.

Who authors the packet here

Parents usually hire a PED-licensed educational diagnostician in private practice. Some Albuquerque families use a neuropsych when they also need a medical differential. Ask which audience the recommendations page is written for. A school IEP and a College Board form are not the same last page.

A CALT may be the remediator. Confirm they will sign a comprehensive evaluation if what you are buying is documentation. Ask whether they have written ACT or SAT packets before. That is not the same as being pre-cleared. Nobody on this directory is.

What “done” looks like

  • A narrative a parent can upload, not only a score printout.
  • An identification that matches the accommodation you are requesting.
  • Language you can paste into the SSD or ACT form.
  • Testing dates recent enough that the reviewer will look. Ask the diagnostician what “recent” means for the report they write.

If a first submission comes back with questions, get revision in the engagement. If reading is the disability, the battery has to say so — dyslexia testing in New Mexico. If you also disagree with the district evaluation, say that at intake: IEE in New Mexico.

Cost and distance

Private comprehensive evaluations in New Mexico typically land around $750–$2,000. Market range, not a quote. Confirm hours, the written report, and a parent conference. “Done” is the PDF, not a phone recap after the last subtest.

A few weeks if they have an opening. Driving Albuquerque–Las Cruces is normal; ask about hybrid intake if you are not in town. Count back from the company’s deadline, then add the accommodations-review wait.
