Gifted and talented IQ testing in Houston

Houston-area GT programs run their own screens. A group test can miss a kid who is anxious, twice-exceptional, or just having a bad morning. A private educational diagnostician can write an individual IQ report you can hand to a GT coordinator or an admissions office.

We list independent Texas evaluators who do gifted and IQ testing — including Houston.

A Vanguard packet is not a private IQ

District identification, magnet applications, and independent-school files all ask for scores. They do not all want the same write-up. Ask the receiving office what instrument and how recent before you book. Then tell the diagnostician which door you are walking through. Private scores are evidence. They do not punch a ticket into a program by themselves.

If the real question is “bright and stuck,” say that. A GT screen will not explain a reading or writing collapse. That is a different battery — dyslexia testing in Houston or the statewide psychoeducational page.

What an individual battery adds

You should get index scores and a sentence about whether a composite is usable. Lopsided profiles — high verbal, weaker processing speed — are why a Houston group screen looked average. Hide that in a table and the coordinator cannot use it.

Who you hire here

Parents book a certified educational diagnostician in private practice. Ask which cognitive tests they use at this age and whether they have written to a named Houston-area school’s form. Do not shop for a promised percentile. Cutoffs belong to the program.

Fees

Private comprehensive evaluations in Texas typically land around $800–$2,500. IQ-only can sit lower. Confirm hours, the written report, and a parent conference. Book against the nomination or application date, not “sometime this spring.”
