SAT/ACT extra time in New Jersey

Extra time on the SAT or ACT is a documentation problem. A New Jersey Learning Disabilities Teacher-Consultant can write the evaluation. College Board and ACT review the file you upload. They do not pre-approve the evaluator.

We list independent New Jersey evaluators who do SAT/ACT accommodation testing — LDT-Cs across the state.

The IEP does not follow the student onto the SAT

A Child Study Team IEP or a 504 from your New Jersey district is useful history. It is not the application. You submit a packet. The testing company decides. That packet is usually a recent comprehensive evaluation, a history of the disability, and a specific ask — extra time, breaks, a reader, a separate room.

Work backward from the registration deadline. Guidance offices in Bergen County and around Princeton are busy in the fall. A report that lands the week of the cutoff is how a student sits the test on standard time and tries again in the spring.

What has to be in the file

Before you pay a deposit, ask what they put on the page for SAT or ACT submissions. You need an identification that matches the request, scores that show why standard timing fails, and accommodation language you can copy onto the form. A score table with no ask wastes the fee.

Ask about recency. Companies want testing that is not years old. Get the evaluator’s rule for “recent enough” in the engagement letter. If a first review comes back with questions, ask now whether they will revise. Nobody listed here is pre-cleared by the testing companies. There is no badge for that.

Who New Jersey families book

Parents here usually hire a Learning Disabilities Teacher-Consultant (LDT-C) in private practice. That is the same kind of professional many Child Study Teams already use, which helps if you also need the report for school. It does not decide the SAT outcome. The company reads the document, not the license title.

If the real issue is decoding, also look at dyslexia testing in New Jersey — same kind of evaluator, different question. A gifted label by itself is not extra time. You still need a disability-related rationale in the write-up.

What you walk out holding

  • A parent-readable report, not only percentiles.
  • A diagnosis or identification, with history, that matches what you will request.
  • Testing accommodations written so you can paste them onto the company form.
  • Testing dates the company is likely to accept. Confirm that window before you book the last subtest.

Fees and timing

Private comprehensive evaluations in New Jersey typically land around $1,500 – $3,200. That is a typical range, not a quote from a named practice. Confirm testing hours, scoring, the written report, and a parent conference. “Finished” means a PDF you can upload, not a verbal recap after the last subtest.

A few weeks is realistic if they have an opening. Count from the company’s published deadline for that administration, not from test Saturday.
