Extra time on the SAT or ACT is a documentation problem. A California Licensed Educational Psychologist can write the report. College Board and ACT review what you send — they do not pre-approve the evaluator.
We list independent California evaluators who do SAT/ACT accommodation testing — LEPs across the state.

A school 504 or IEP does not automatically follow your child into the SAT or ACT. You submit documentation. The testing company decides. That packet is usually a recent comprehensive evaluation plus a clear statement of the disability and the accommodations you are asking for.
Start early. Review calendars slip, and a rushed report is how families miss a test date.
Who can do this in California
The people parents actually hire are Licensed Educational Psychologists (LEPs). California gives LEPs independent practice rights to test and diagnose. That is the usual author of a school-facing or college-board-facing report here.
Ask whether they have written SAT or ACT documentation before. That is not the same as being “College Board approved.” Nobody on a directory list is pre-cleared. Ask what they put in the report and whether they will revise if the first submission comes back with questions.
What you should walk out with
- A parent-readable report, not just a score table.
- A diagnosis or identification, with history, that matches what you are requesting.
- Recommended testing accommodations written so you can copy them onto the form.
- Dates of testing recent enough that the company will look at them. Ask the evaluator what “recent” means for the report they write.

What it costs and how long it takes
Private comprehensive evaluations in California typically land around $2,000–$4,500. That is a market range, not a quote. Confirm what the number includes: testing hours, scoring, the written report, and a parent conference.
A few weeks from first appointment to a finished report is a reasonable expectation if they have an opening. Work backward from the registration deadline, not from the test day.
